But now Indian Railways and IRCTC, understanding this problem of passengers, have made some important changes in the rules, which can make your journey easier.
Now you can book up to 24 tickets in a month
Railways has given great relief to the common passengers, especially those who travel with family. According to the new guidelines issued by IRCTC, now you can book more tickets in a month than before. Even if your user ID is not linked to Aadhaar card, you can book up to 12 tickets online in a month. Recall that earlier this limit was only 6 tickets, which was increased last year.
At the same time, if you link your IRCTC ID with Aadhaar and Aadhaar verification of any one passenger is done while booking the ticket, then this facility is doubled. Such users can book up to 24 tickets in a month. Earlier this limit was 12 tickets.
If you want tickets between 8 am and 10 am, then know these rules
Along with convenience, Railways has also laid emphasis on security and transparency. Under a recently implemented rule, if you want to book a ticket between 8 am to 10 am, it is mandatory for your ID to be verified with Aadhaar. This rule has come into effect from 28 October 2025.
This two-hour time in the morning is very important because during this time booking for AC and non-AC classes starts and tickets for high-demand trains get sold out within minutes. Railways has clarified that now it will not be possible to book tickets in this slot by logging in only through mobile number or email. If your ID is not linked to Aadhaar, you will be able to book tickets only after 10 am, when seats on main trains may already be full.

Common passengers often complain that as soon as the booking starts, all the seats get filled within a few seconds. Railways believes that black marketing of tickets was done in the morning slots through agents and software. The objective of Railways behind making Aadhaar authentication mandatory is that the tickets should be given directly to the genuine passengers and not to the middlemen. This is a big effort to crack down on those who break into the system and use fake IDs.

If you have not yet linked your IRCTC ID with Aadhaar, then there is no need to worry. This process is very easy. For this you will have to log in to IRCTC website. Go to ‘My Account’ option and click on ‘Link Your Aadhaar’. Enter your Aadhaar number and name there. An OTP will come on the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar, once entered, your ID will be verified. Once this process is completed, you will not only be able to avail 24 tickets but will also be able to book tickets without any interruption even during morning peak hours.
