India’s batting faltered against USA
After the powerplay, for some time it seemed that Suryakumar Yadav and Rinku Singh would take over the collapsing innings. But, this pair also broke up before the 12th over. Rinku Singh was out after scoring only 6 runs in 14 balls. When Rinku went, Hardik came. But, he too could not score 5 runs against USA and within no time half of the Indian team returned to the dugout at 77 runs. This is the first time that India has lost 6 wickets on such a low score in a T20I against an associate team.
Abhishek and Shivam become golden ducks
Among the top 6 batsmen who returned to the dugout after being out, Tilak Verma scored the maximum 25 runs. Apart from him, Ishan Kishan scored 20 runs. Ishan Kishan also got a lease of life at the score of 10 runs but he could not take much advantage of it. Apart from these, the accounts of Shivam Dubey and Abhishek Sharma were not opened. Both these batsmen became golden ducks.
This happened 3 times with India in T20 World Cup
This is the third time in the history of T20 World Cup, when India has lost 4 wickets in the powerplay. Before the 2026 T20 World Cup, this has happened in the 2010 and 2016 T20 World Cup. India had to face defeat on both the previous occasions after losing 4 wickets in the powerplay. However, India was chasing then. She is batting first against USA in the current T20 World Cup.
Suryakumar Yadav stood at one end
Amidst falling wickets from one end, however, captain Suryakumar Yadav continued playing his game by holding the other end. This is India’s second match against USA on a big stage like T20 World Cup. The first clash between these two teams took place in the T20 World Cup 2024, where India defeated USA.
