Khurshid supported Omar Abdullah
New Delhi [भारत]July 12 (ANI): Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Sunday supported Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s demand to restore statehood to the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. He also expressed concern over BJP’s alleged efforts to break the National Conference MLA. Speaking to ANI, Salman Khurshid said that breaking parties using money and pressure is a matter of concern. Khurshid said, “It is a matter of concern that such things are happening. Parties are being broken, money is being given and people are being pressurized. Elections are not just about the day of voting. It also includes all the activities related to the elections.”
Supporting Abdullah’s demand for statehood for Jammu and Kashmir, he said, “I believe that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has made every effort to ensure that the appropriate time comes. A lot of time has already passed. The Supreme Court had also pointed out this. He is taking the matter forward, let him take it forward.”
The National Conference has called for a protest at Jantar Mantar on July 20 demanding statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. Party chief Farooq Abdullah has invited leaders of all parties to join the protest.
Sensational allegation against BJP of buying MLAs
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier alleged that the BJP had tried to lure a JKNC MLA to switch sides by luring him with Rs 20-30 crore and a ministerial berth. Abdullah said the MLA rejected the proposal.
‘Offered 20-30 crores and ministerial post’
Addressing a gathering, Abdullah asserted, “A BJP official, who is a Supreme Court lawyer, told one of my Jammu MLAs behind closed doors, ‘We will give Rs 20 to 30 crore, a ministry and statehood. You come with us.’ Do they think that the honor of these people is so cheap?”
He further accused the BJP of trying to come to power through the “backdoor”. He said, “People of BJP, do not consider us so weak. You will not have any entry from the back door. You will not come to the front seat from the back door. At the moment, the public has kept you behind, and you will remain behind.”
Referring to the NC’s proposed July 20 protest in New Delhi demanding restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Abdullah said the program would go ahead despite not getting permission. (ANI)
