He’s completely fit: Shubman Gill clears air on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness after first Test
It is to be noted that Bumrah’s absence from the attack in the decisive final phase of the Headingley Test, left fans concerned. While some speculated injury to the Indian spearhead, skipper Shubman Gill finally ended the rumours of an injury in the post-match address. Speaking with BCC, when inquired of Bumrah’s absence, Gill responded saying that it was just a tactical move and he aimed to give chances to other bowlers as England needed only a handful of runs.
‘No, he’s completely fit. Nothing like that. They were 15 or 20 runs left, so we just wanted to give it to some other bowlers, but he is definitely fit,’ Gill said. Although, the 31-year-old claimed five wickets in the first innings, he went wicketless in the second England innings.
Furthermore, Gill was also questioned about if India will play Bumrah in the second Test, to which he responded, ‘It’s definitely match-by-match. We’ve got a good break after this match. Once we go to Birmingham and see the wicket, we will see if he’s going to play that one or not.’
