On Tuesday, June 24, suffered a horrific five-wicket defeat in the opening Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England.
After centuries coming from five of their batters during the course of the first Test, they failed to make a mark on the field and went down in the game. In the bowling department, majorly stood as a lone warrior, picking five-fer in the first innings and going wicketless in second.
Although, the debate around reasons of Team India’s defeat is on, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opening batter who scored 101 in the first innings, drew the attention for his horrific fielding and four dropped catches. It is to be noted that in the first England innings, Jaiswal dropped Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook, denying these wickets to Bumrah. He also dropped crucial catches later on.

During the course of the five days, India dropped as many as eight catches. Out of the eight, Jaiswal dropped as many as four catches. While three of the dropped catches came off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling which left him visibly angry, a dropped catch on Mohammed Siraj’s delivery on Day 5 left the Indian pacer frustrated as well.
While he drew flake from fans for his poor run on the field, Jaiswal was seen enjoying himself as he performed some dance moves. Jaiswal scored 101 and four runs across the two innings. His dropped catches proved key in Team India’s loss at Headingley and he’ll hope to better his field performance, hoping to shun his critics in the second Test, which is scheduled to be played from July 2 to 6 at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
