After the death of 9 people in the Moshi garbage dumpyard accident in Pune, Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi has ordered to register an FIR against the contractor company. He has directed the officials to complete the preliminary investigation as soon as possible.

Pune (Maharashtra) [भारत]July 12 (ANI): Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijay Suryavanshi on Sunday directed officials to complete the preliminary investigation into the Moshi garbage dumpyard building accident at the earliest and register a police case against the concerned contractor company.
These instructions were issued during a review meeting chaired by the Commissioner with senior civic officials to assess the incident and the ongoing response. Additional commissioners Kuldeep Jangam, Trupti Sandbhor and Vikrant Bagde, joint commissioner Manoj Lonkar and officials of various departments were present in the meeting.
Earlier, Vijay Suryavanshi had directed officials to issue notices to the environment department of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and contractor Antony Lara Renewables.
9 people lost their lives in the accident
The accident occurred around 1:30 pm on July 8, when a pile of garbage collapsed on a building at the Moshi garbage depot, killing nine people as many were trapped under the debris.
Following the incident, rescue operations were launched by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indian Army, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, PMRDA Fire Department, police and other agencies. Five people managed to get out of the building immediately after the collapse, while rescue teams later pulled out nine of the remaining 18 people trapped inside the building and under piles of garbage.
Suryavanshi also directed officials to expedite the preliminary investigation and initiate legal action against the contractor company in connection with the incident.
Union Minister called the incident sad
Union Minister of State Ramdas Athawale described the incident as sad and disturbing and called for demolition of substandard and dilapidated buildings as a preventive measure.
The Union Minister of State told reporters, “Many people have lost their lives, and many are injured. The government has already paid compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the affected families. This is a very sad and disturbing incident; such incidents should not happen, and concerted efforts are needed to stop them. Buildings which are structurally weak or substandard need to be demolished to avoid such tragedies. The government will definitely look into the matter.” (ANI)
