Heartwarming Gesture: Tamil Nadu Locals Welcome Cauvery River With Flowers And Prayers

In a touching gesture, residents of Tamil Nadu greeted the Cauvery water when it was released from the Kallanai dam. Tamil Nadu locals offered flowers and prayers to the flowing water of the Cauvery River.

Last Monday, Chief Minister MK Stalin released the water for irrigation in the Cauvery delta region.

Social media has been filled with videos and visuals of the locals. The video shows a large group of locals placing offerings on the ground as Cauvery water slowly begins flowing into dried-up land. People are running over to the flowing water and folding their hands to welcome the river.

One user named Naveen Reddy wrote, “As Kaveri arrives, everyone’s heart lifts, like the joy that comes with the first monsoon. With simple offerings and big smiles, they welcome her like one of their own. That’s why I’m eager to monitor the flood – it’s not just water, it’s emotion, tradition, and togetherness flowing in”.

Another user wrote, “Women prostrating before the Cauvery river in respect, as it reaches their village at the beginning of the monsoon! Our rivers are so intrinsically related to our traditions, culture, and our great 5000-year-old civilization!”

In another tweet, people seen performing rituals to welcome the river’s water. The user wrote, “Kumbakonam people welcoming the Cauvery River! Delta’s economy is still depending on Cauvery. It’s their lifeline.”

The Chief Minister, too, showered seeds and flower petals over the flowing water as a symbolic act to commemorate the release of water from the Kallanai dam. Kallanai dam is located on the boundary between Thanjavur and Tiruchi districts.
