Goda Masala Recipe
In Maharashtrian dishes, you will get a different taste apart from the normal garam masala which comes from Goda Masala. This spice has a mild sweetness, mild spiciness, and coconut flavor which make it special. You will definitely find Goda Masala in the kitchen of most of the houses in Maharashtra. Maharashtrians use it in both veg and non-veg dishes. You can also prepare this masala and store it, which can be eaten with different things. Like stuffed brinjal, amti (these are spicy lentils), misal pav, stuffed okra, masala bhaat (with hot rice and desi ghee). Apart from this, you can use it in making soup. Can eat with paratha.
Dagad flower is a very special ingredient in Goda masala, which is also called stone flower. This is what gives it a special aroma. Apart from this, it contains sesame and coconut which help in giving a rich nutty flavor to the masala. So let’s see the recipe of chef approved Goda Masala.
Ingredients of Goda Masala
- 2 teaspoons poppy seeds
- 2 tbsp grated coconut
- 1.5 teaspoon white sesame seeds
- 2 teaspoon oil
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 6 to 8 cloves
- 4 teaspoons whole coriander
- half teaspoon celery
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon Kasoori Methi
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- half teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 pinch asafoetida
- 1 small piece stone flower (dagad phool)
Goda Masala Recipe
- First of all, you have to dry roast white sesame seeds and poppy seeds until a nice aroma starts coming out. After this you have to roast coconut also.
- Now heat oil in a pan and roast whole spices in it. Like black pepper, cumin, celery, bay leaves, cinnamon, cloves, whole dry coriander.
- Fry all these spices while stirring or tossing until a nice aroma comes out. Add Kasuri Methi to it and roast it lightly.
- When all the spices are roasted well, turn off the gas, take it out in a plate and let it cool slightly.
- Now put all the roasted whole spices in the grinder jar, along with this you also have to add the mixture of roasted sesame seeds, poppy seeds and coconut.
- Add ground red chilli, asafoetida, turmeric, salt and stone flower i.e. Dagad flower in the grinder jar. Grind all the spices well. In this way Goda Masala will be ready.
