Ravi Shastri said that this victory is just the beginning of his brilliant cricket career. “It was special to see this India Under-19 team lift the World Cup. These boys handled the pressure like seasoned professionals and played for each other every step of the way. It speaks volumes about their character. Vaibhav Suryavanshi played a stormy score of 175 runs in 80 balls.
India U19 won the U19 World Cup title by defeating England U19 by 100 runs thanks to Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s stormy innings of 175 runs in just 80 balls. Deciding to bat first, India scored a massive score of 411/9 and set a difficult target of 412 runs. Suryavanshi’s innings was a fine example of power-hitting, which included 15 fours and 15 sixes. He reached his century in just 55 balls and 150 in 71 balls – the fastest 150 in the history of the tournament. Captain Ayush Mhatre made a steady contribution of 53 runs in 51 balls, while Abhigyan Kundu (40 runs in 31 balls) and Kanishk Chauhan (37* runs in 20 balls) helped maintain the pace as India crossed the 400-run mark. Suryavanshi’s 15 sixes in a single innings also created a new record of U19 World Cup.
England’s chase got off to a shaky start, with Joseph Moores out for 17 in the fourth over. A partnership between Ben Dawkins and Ben Mayes took over the innings, but England remained under pressure as the Indian bowlers continued taking wickets. Dawkins played a fighting inning of 66 runs in 56 balls, but wickets kept falling, including an important wicket of captain Mhatre. Caleb Faulkner finally counter-attacked by scoring 115 off 67 balls, which included nine fours and seven sixes, but his efforts went in vain as India were all out for 311 runs in 40.2 overs. RS Ambareesh was India’s most successful bowler with 3/56, supported by Deepesh Devendran (2/64) and Kanishk Chauhan (2/63).
