New Delhi [भारत]July 12 (ANI): Afghanistan’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Maulvi Ataullah Omari concluded his visit to India on Sunday with a high-level delegation. During this, a commitment was expressed to maintain the momentum of bilateral relations between the two countries and ensure agricultural cooperation.
Detailed discussion on agricultural cooperation
The Ministry of External Affairs said that this was the fourth ministerial visit from Afghanistan to India after October 2025. The ministry said that during the visit, the Afghan minister met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Both sides reviewed existing cooperation and explored new avenues of cooperation in agriculture, irrigation, livestock, agricultural research, education, capacity building and agri-trade. Topics like food security, seed systems and increasing crop productivity were prominent topics discussed.
The Ministry of External Affairs said India reiterated its commitment to support Afghanistan’s agriculture sector through cooperation in climate-resilient and bio-fortified crop varieties, sustainable irrigation practices, water harvesting, watershed development and other areas of mutual interest.

In another important meeting, the Afghan minister also met Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan. During this, the discussion focused on strengthening cooperation in food processing through value addition, infrastructure development, technology transfer, capacity building and promotion of bilateral trade in agricultural and food products.
The Ministry of External Affairs further said that the Afghan Minister also met Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Pabitra Margherita and exchanged views on ongoing bilateral cooperation aimed at supporting the welfare and development of the Afghan people.
The Ministry of External Affairs noted that the delegation also met with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMIT), International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), International Potato Center (CIP), International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI).
