Uttarakhand News: Man Who Crossed Safety Railing Drowns Into Ganga River In Haridwar, Friend Continues To Film Reel; Shocking Video Goes Viral

A man lost his life in Haridwar in a shocking case of reel craze. He drowned into the river while his friend was recording the fatal moment on camera, unaware of its seriousness.

The incident took place at Govindpuri Ghat on Sunday.

Identified as 40-year-old Vikas, resident of Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, he had come to Uttarakhand on a pilgrimage with his friends.

Crossed safety railing

While Vikas went into the river for a holy dip and taking ‘Ganga snan’, he crossed the railing and entered into deep water. Soon he was swept away by the strong current of water and drowned.

Body recovered, sent for post-mortem

The police called the family members and got the body identified. After this, the body was sent to the mortuary of the district hospital for post-mortem.

Police officer Amarjeet Singh told Amar Ujala the body has been handed over to the family members. The news report also mentioned, on receiving the information, the cops reached the spot and started a search operation, but the youth could not be traced, and the body was only recovered on Monday morning.

His body was recovered after 24 hours. The police recovered the body near Pathri Power House and sent it for post-mortem.

It was reported that his friends saw him bathing and cross the safety line, but they kept filming reels at the site instead of jumping into the water and rescuing Vikas.

This incident has become another lesson of deaths due to negligence while making videos on social media and a reminder for people to be careful while bathing in the Ganga and follow the safety rules.
