New Delhi [भारत]July 12 (ANI): Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will lead a high-level business delegation on a visit to Spain, Belgium and Finland from July 13 to 17. The objective of this visit is to deepen India’s economic partnership with Europe and explore new opportunities for Indian exporters.
FTA opens new opportunities for Indian businessmen
Talking about India’s growing network of trade agreements, Goyal said the signed FTAs have opened up new opportunities for Indian businesses. The minister said, “The free trade agreements signed by India with developed countries under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi have opened up immense export potential for India’s industrial sector, farmers, fishermen and MSMEs, and have also created new employment opportunities.”
Highlighting the implementation of the India-UK FTA, Goyal said, “The free trade agreement with the UK is going to come into effect on the 15th, which will allow goods to be exported from India at zero duty.”
Also referring to the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement, Goyal said, “During the meeting between the Prime Minister and the EU President on January 27, a free trade agreement with the 27 countries of the EU was finalized.”
Announcing his Europe visit, Goyal said, “I am visiting four of these countries next week, where I will lead a business delegation to explore new opportunities for Indian exporters.”
He said the delegation included companies of all sizes from diverse sectors. “A large business delegation is participating in this visit, which includes companies of all sizes and representatives from a variety of sectors.”
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Goyal’s visit to Spain, Belgium and Finland “underscores India’s commitment to strengthening economic partnerships across Europe with a focus on trade, investment, technology, innovation and sustainability.”
India-EU Trade and Technology Council meeting to be held in Brussels
The ministry said the delegation includes leading Indian companies in sectors such as advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital technology, gems and jewellery, food processing, healthcare and design.
In Brussels, Goyal will co-chair the third India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) ministerial meeting along with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasad.
The ministry described the India-EU TTC as “the apex institutional mechanism for cooperation on trade, reliable technology and economic security”.
Referring to the council, Goyal said, “We have a ‘Trade and Technology Council’ mechanism with the EU to resolve trade-related issues and create new technology partnerships; a meeting of this council is scheduled to be held in Brussels on the 14th and 15th.”
The ministry said the visit comes at “an important juncture in India-EU relations”, as both sides are committed to strengthening economic cooperation and working towards the early implementation of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. The ministry said the visit is expected to give new impetus to trade and investment ties, as well as expand cooperation in emerging technologies, clean energy, innovation and advanced manufacturing.
