destination wedding

If you are dreaming of having a destination wedding abroad, then Sri Lanka is now becoming the first choice of Indian couples. According to the ‘Destination Wedding Report 2026’ of wedding planning platform WedMeGood, Sri Lanka was the fastest growing foreign destination for Indian weddings in 2025. There has been an increase of about 25 percent in its popularity. According to the report, despite the ongoing tension in West Asia, there is no possibility of any major reduction in the destination wedding plans of Indian couples in 2026.

Why are you liking Sri Lanka?

According to the report, short distance from India, easy travel, luxurious hotels, beautiful beaches and luxury wedding experience are making Sri Lanka increasingly popular. It is estimated that in the coming years, the booking of Indian weddings here may increase by 20 to 25 percent every year.

Cheranka Mendis, Regional Communications Director, Shangri-La Colombo and Shangri-La Hambantota, says that Sri Lanka is no longer just a new option but has become a major luxury wedding destination for Indian couples.

Thailand still number-1

However, when it comes to foreign destination weddings, Thailand still remains the most favorite destination for Indians. About 25 lakh Indian tourists will reach there in the year 2025, which is 16 percent more than last year. Wedmigood’s report is based on a survey of 2.5 lakh consumers and about 24 thousand wedding industry professionals and service providers.

Demand from these countries is also increasing

According to the report, apart from Sri Lanka and Thailand, Bali (Indonesia), Vietnam and Malaysia are also emerging as the favorite destination wedding spots of Indians. At the same time, the figures of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority show that the number of Indian tourists coming there was 3.02 lakh in 2023, which increased to 4.16 lakh in 2024 and more than 5.30 lakh in 2025.

These cities became the first choice in India

If we talk about destination wedding within the country, then Dehradun, Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Shimla and Jim Corbett were liked the most. After these, Udaipur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Goa were also included in the list of favorite wedding destinations of Indian couples.
