Bajaj unveils new entry-level electric scooters

Bajaj Auto has launched the Chetak 3001 electric scooter with a price tag of Rs 99,990. This model is an upgrade from the firm’s best-selling Chetak 2903 and is aimed at serving as Bajaj’s new entry-level affordable electric scooter, built on the Chetak 35 series platform.

The Chetak 3001 has several features such as floorboard-mounted 3.0 kWh battery, offering a range of 127 km and 35 litres of boot space, among others.

During the fourth quarter of FY25 (January-March), the Chetak was recognised as India’s number one selling electric scooter, capturing a 25% market share. Rakesh Sharma, executive director of Bajaj Auto, stated that the two variants in the Chetak 35 series have gained a higher market share in the upper tier of the customer segment while positively impacting the firm’s bottom line.

Bajaj had introduced its third variant, the Chetak 3503, at the end of May 2025, and another one in June. With these launches, the Chetak portfolio is set to become very competitive, Sharma said. Further expansion of this lineup is planned for FY26. It will target emerging sub-segments, he added.

The Chetak brand has around 310 experience centres and 3,000 points of sale. With the launch and expansion of the 35 series, the company aims to approach Ebitda breakeven. The firm aniticipates a healthy increase in Chetak sales, although there are concerns regarding China’s restrictions on rare earth metals.

Eric Vas, president of the Urbanite Business Unit at Bajaj Auto, expects the Chetak 3001 to set a benchmark for the mass adoption of electric scooters.
