NRAI has started National Shooting Camp to prepare for the ISSF World Cup and Asian Games. This includes 35 top shooters including Manu Bhakar. The aim of the camp is to prepare the athletes for peak performance.
New Delhi [भारत]July 12 (ANI): The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Sunday announced the launch of a high-performance National Shooting Camp. The camp will serve as a launchpad for the Indian contingent ahead of the upcoming ISSF World Cup and Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China. According to a press release, this training camp will run till July 20, 2026, in which 35 top shooters of the country from rifle, pistol and shotgun events will come together.
The camp includes big names like India’s Olympic and World Championship stars Manu Bhaker, Rudranksh Balasaheb Patil, Aishwarya Pratap Singh Tomar, Elavenil Valarivan, Isha Singh and Bhaunish Mendiratta.
Strong team of foreign and Indian coaches
To provide the best technical training to the contingent, NRAI has created a strong coaching panel directly on the range. Leading international experts leading the technical side include Olympic champion Peter Wilson (foreign coach, trap), renowned foreign tactician Thomas Furnik (rifle), Jelena Arunovic (pistol), and Riccardo Filippelli (skeet). This international staff will work closely with the stalwarts of Indian shooters turned coaches, including Commonwealth Games icon Samaresh Jung (Head Coach, 10m Pistol) and former Olympian Anwar Sultan (High Performance Coach, Trap), who will provide the athletes with an excellent support system.
Emphasizing the importance of this training block, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, President, NRAI, said, “We are entering some very important months for Indian shooting. The World Cup and Asian Games in Hangzhou are major benchmarks for us, and this camp is designed to ensure that our shooters are at their peak at the right time. Our core group training together under the guidance of top coaches like Peter Wilson, Samaresh Jung and our international team gives us It provides the perfect environment to iron out small imperfections. It’s all about fine-tuning their routine so that they can take to the international range with complete clarity.”
The core coaching setup is further strengthened by High Performance Director Dr. Pierre Beauchamp and High Performance Manager Ronak Pandit, who are heading an 11-member sports science unit dedicated to injury prevention, conditioning and psychological preparation. Highlighting the extensive nature of the preparations, NRAI General Secretary Pawan Kumar Singh said, “A national camp like this is really about building the right momentum and camaraderie before going into the big tournaments. Our main focus is to give our athletes the best possible support system, ensuring they have everything they need to train without any hindrances. The energy and focus amongst the shooters and the entire coaching staff at the moment is great. We are going into these next few months as a strong unit, And I am confident that this collective hard work will translate into strong performances on the global stage.”
The training schedule is strategically structured into distinct blocks to optimize range efficiency at the national facility. While the main segments of rifle and pistol will take place from July 12 to 17, and trap team from July 14 to 20, the skeet team successfully completed its special technical routine in a dedicated starting block that began on July 9.
