WTC 2023-25 Stats: The current World Test Championship cycle has ended as South Africa won their inaugural ICC title in the 21st century with a win over Australia in the final.

The two-year-long Test cricket extravaganza had a fitting end, as Proteas secured a fantastic victory. The third WTC cycle ran from 16 June 2023 to 14 June 2025, involving nine full-member nations competing across 70 Test matches in 27 series.

WTC 2025 Final

South Africa and Australia emerged as the top two teams in the WTC 2023-25 cycle, qualifying for the final after a hard-fought two-year campaign. South Africa finished first on the percentage points table, winning 8 out of their 12 Tests. Australia, despite a slow over-rate penalty costing them points, managed to finish second, winning 13 of their 19 Tests.

The final was held at Lord’s from 11 to 14 June 2025. Australia batted first, posting 212 in challenging overcast conditions. South Africa’s bowlers, led by Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, kept Australia in check. In response, South Africa crumbled to 138, with Pat Cummins delivering a superb spell. In the second innings, Australia again struggled against a disciplined Proteas attack and managed only 207, setting South Africa a target of 282. Chasing under pressure, Aiden Markram anchored the innings with a brilliant 136. Temba Bavuma provided vital support, and South Africa sealed a 5-wicket victory on the fourth day, ending a 27-year drought for an ICC trophy.

WTC 2025 Final Prize Money

The ICC awarded significant prize money to the finalists. Champions South Africa received USD 3.6 million, their largest Test-related purse to date, alongside the coveted WTC Mace. Australia, finishing runners-up, took home USD 2.1 million.
