Director Ram ’s much-anticipated film ‘Parunthu Po,’ starring Mirchi Shiva , is all set for release on July 4. Known for the magical collaboration between Ram and composer Yuvan Shankar Raja , fans were shocked to discover that Yuvan hasn’t composed the songs for this film; he’s only done the background score . This change didn’t sit well with fans, who began sending angry messages to Ram. Speaking at the film’s first single launch, Ram opened up about the backlash and explained what really happened behind the scenes.
Yuvan and Ram: A musical bond fans cherish
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music has always elevated Ram’s storytelling. From intimate songs to gripping scores, their combo has always hit a rapport with the audience. In Tamil cinema , these directors—Ram, Selvaraghavan, Thiagarajan Kumararaj, Venkat Prabhu , and Vishnuvardhan—follow a brother-like bond with Yuvan Shankar Raja. Therefore, when Ram’s film is released without Yuvan’s signature tunes, it feels personal for many fans, who are not shy to express their displeasure.
Why Yuvan couldn’t do the songs
Ram clarified that Yuvan was originally on board for the full soundtrack. However, due to timing and travel constraints, with the team rushing to submit the film to the Rotterdam Film Festival and Yuvan being tied up in Dubai, things didn’t go as planned. Lyricist Madhan Karky had suggested using jingle-style short songs, which required a different setup. Yuvan then graciously suggested that Ram get someone else to compose the songs while he’d still take care of the background score. That’s when composer Santhosh Narayanan stepped in and delivered the tracks.
