Ahmedabad plane crash: US President Donald Trump called yesterday’s Air India plane crash the “worst in aviation history”.
He described the incident as “horrific” and assured India of full American support during this difficult time.
“The plane crash was terrible. I’ve already told them – anything we can do,” Trump told reporters.
He further added that while India is a “big and strong” country, the United States is ready to offer any form of support if needed.
“It’s a big country, strong country. They’ll handle it, I am sure. But I let them know that anything we can do will be over there immediately,” he expressed.
“But it was a horrific crash…,” the 78-year-old said, before adding, “We saw the plane, it looks like it was flying pretty well… Looks like the engine may have lost power. But that was a terrible crash. It is one of the worst in aviation history.
Other world leaders too expressed solidarity
UK PM Keir Starmer called the crash “devastating”. “The scenes emerging of a London-bound plane carrying many British nationals crashing in the Indian city of Ahmedabad are devastating,” the UK President wrote on X.
He added, “I am being kept updated as the situation develops, and my thoughts are with the passengers and their families at this deeply distressing time.”
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said that Germany is following the shocking images of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad and praying for the people in India.
China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, said that he is “deeply saddened” by the plane crash in Ahmedabad and expressed solidarity with all those affected by it. “Our hearts go out to the passengers and families,” he added.
Canadian PM Mark Carney said that he is closely monitoring the situation. “Devastated to learn of the crash of a London-bound Air India plane in Ahmedabad, carrying 242 passengers, including one Canadian. My thoughts are with the loved ones of everyone on board,” he said.
Carney added, “Canada’s transportation officials are in close contact with counterparts, and I am receiving regular updates as the response to this tragedy unfolds.”
The High Commission of Canada also expressed deepest condolences following the Air India plane crash. “Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victim,” it said.
French Ambassador to India, Thierry Mathou, said that France is “deeply saddened” by reports of the plane crash in Ahmedabad and expressed full solidarity in this difficult time.
“Horrible news of a passenger plane crash in India. My deepest condolences to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the people of India on this tragic day. Our thoughts are with all victims’ relatives and close ones in India, the UK, Portugal, and Canada,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on X.
He added, “We share your shock and grief on this tragic day. We all pray for as many lives to be saved as possible and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin also offered his “deepest condolences” following the tragic crash. “Please accept my deepest condolences over the tragic consequences of the plane crash at Ahmedabad Airport. Please convey my sympathy and support to the families of those killed and my wishes for a swift recovery to those injured in the crash,” he said.
King Charles III said that he and Queen Camilla are “desperately shocked” by the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad.
The London-bound Air India plane crashed yesterday, moments after taking off from Ahmedabad airport’s runway 23. 241 passengers, including former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani, aboard the plane have been declared dead. Only one passenger in seat 11A has survived and is undergoing treatment at a hospital. Two pilots and 10 crew members aboard the plane have also been declared dead.
