The Supreme Court has given big relief to former BCCI President Anurag Thakur in a case related to BCCI. The Supreme Court has amended its 2017 order, in which Anurag Thakur was prohibited from being associated with any work of BCCI. This decision has come in a long-running case related to BCCI. In January 2017, the Supreme Court had ordered ‘cease and desist’ to Anurag Thakur, under which he was prevented from participating in the affairs of the board.

In the year 2017, the Supreme Court had removed Anurag Thakur from the post of President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Along with this order, cases of contempt and perjury were also initiated against him, although some relief was received later in 2017. However, now the court has changed its decision. The court has also made it clear that Anurag Thakur can now participate in the board’s functions, meetings and other matters as per BCCI Rules and Regulations. With this the old ban has been completely ended.

Became BCCI President in 2016

Anurag Thakur, who has also been a BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh and a former Union Minister, had filed a petition to amend this order. They said that the 2017 order was passed without listening to them. Accepting their demand, the Supreme Court ruled to lift the ban. This decision can bring an important change in Indian cricket administration.

Anurag Thakur became the President of BCCI in 2016, but he was removed from the post for not implementing the recommendations of the Lodha Committee. Now with this decision, they will be able to become active again in the activities of the board, provided they follow the existing rules of BCCI.
