Man who posed as ‘Mohammed Deepak’ to save Muslim shopkeeper allegedly attacked days later

New Delhi: Deepak Kumar, who became a hero of Dehradun overnight after introducing himself as ‘Mohammed Deepak’ to save an elderly Muslim shopkeeper from the Bajrang Dal members. Days after the incident, he was attacked by several people.

Deepak saved the Muslim man in Kotdwar when Bajrang Dal members confronted the man for using ‘Baba’ in his shop’s name on Republic Day. After the incident, Deepak was praised by netizens on social media, but in response, firstly, several people gathered outside his gym, and then shouted communal slogans at his family in full view of the police on January 31.

Afterwards, he was again under attack. However, the police called him to the station and assured him that this incident would not happen again.

“Yesterday, some people attacked me. Afterwards, the police called me to the station, spoke with me, and assured me that whatever had happened should not have… They also said that such an incident would never happen again… I urge people who are trying to meet me that when the time comes, we will meet, but right now, everyone should stay wherever they are,” Deepak Kumar stated.

The initial confrontation between Bajrang Dal members and Deepak ignited outrage on social media, resulting in 30 to 40 Bajrang Dal members travelling from Dehradun and Rishikesh to Kotdwar for sloganeering and filming videos outside Deepak’s residence and workplace.
