As Mumbai’s monsoon season unleashes, bringing with it its predictable fury of waterlogged roads and notorious potholes. Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha didn’t hold back while addressing her frustration regarding it. The ‘Dabangg’ star took to Instagram, using her signature sarcasm to highlight the city’s persistent infrastructure woes and contrast it with advanced road solutions seen elsewhere.
A sarcastic jab at finding concrete solutions
In her Instagram story, the actress shared a video depicting an innovative road construction method, reportedly from Germany. This futuristic technology enables roads to absorb water, effectively preventing waterlogging and eliminating potholes – a scenario that, as she stated: “Mumbaikars can only dream of”, amidst their annual monsoon struggles.
Her accompanying caption was a direct, pointed jab at municipal authorities: “Whaaat??? You don’t dig all year every year instead of finding a ‘concrete’ solution while the city is underwater in the rains?? Shee yaar… that’s too bad (sic).” Her cutting remarks perfectly capture the public’s exasperation with Mumbai’s crumbling infrastructure, which frustratingly remains unaddressed despite consistent public outcry each year.
City’s annual chaotic monsoons
Sonakshi’s comments come as a result of the seemingly never-ending saga of infrastructural facilities of the city. Upscale areas like Napean Sea Road and Andheri quickly submerged within hours of the season’s first significant downpour. This chaos led to severe traffic jams, stranded commuters, and a renewed wave of criticism directed at the city’s civic bodies.
Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri also voiced his concern for the same as he shared a video of the flooded Napean Sea Road – a locality home to some of India’s wealthiest residents. He posted on X (formerly Twitter): “Napean Sea Road, home to India’s top billionaires, top ministers & officials, chokes in one shower. So do Delhi, Bengaluru and other cities, year after year (sic).”
