Music director AR Rahman has been surrounded by controversies for some time now. However, they are now ready to overcome this. Talking about the controversy arising out of his comment about the film ‘Chhaava’ and communal atmosphere in Bollywood, he said that he is ready to move forward. In a conversation with ‘Noise and Grains’, which is organizing the upcoming ‘Wonderment Tour’ in Chennai, he also said that people are not ready to listen to him, even if he explains to them.
In the video, comedy actor Alexander Babu asked Rahman about his statement in which he presented his stand. To this, Rehman gave a slightly confused answer and said, “Look, preparation is required in life. And we should be prepared for everything.” Then he smiled and asked them to talk about some other subject because “we all know.”
When Alexander said that he felt a little sad that Rehman had to give so much detail of his achievements and patriotism in his statement, Rehman clarified, “You know about all this, it is better that we talk about some other subject because people who know you do not need an explanation. And when you do, they will listen to you. Don’t listen, especially to people who don’t know you….
What was the controversy about?
In an interview with BBC Asian Network, Rahman was asked if he ever faced discrimination in Bollywood as a Tamil music director. He said, “Maybe I never knew it, maybe God kept it hidden, but I didn’t feel anything like that. In the last eight years, perhaps power has changed and now power is in the hands of those who are not creative. “It could also be a communal issue… but it is not clearly in front of me.” He also criticized Chava for taking advantage of ‘Partition’.
After the protest, Rahman released a video statement in which he said, “Music has always been a way to connect, celebrate and honor our culture. India is my inspiration, my guru and my home. I understand.. that sometimes intentions can be misunderstood. But my motive has always been to respect and serve through music. I never wished to hurt anyone, and I hope my sincerity will be felt.”
Rahman’s upcoming Wonder Tour will begin in Chennai on February 14 at the Nehru Outdoor Stadium at 6:30 pm. Ticket prices start from ₹4000 to ₹28,000. The event company and Rahman himself want all disputes to be resolved before the tour.
