Sinner, the world No. 1 seed, became the first tennis player born after 1990 to achieve 16 Grand Slam victories, having defeated Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the latter’s final match. The winner of last season’s United States Open and this season’s Australian Open, the Italian was the guest at the 38-year-old Gasquet’s farewell, winning the match 6-3, 6-0, 6-4. He will play Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic, who beat Alejandro Davidovich of Spain 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Meanwhile, Zverev, the third seed, lost his first set of the tournament against the Dutchman Jesper de Jong with a score of 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-3. 2024’s finalist will play Flavio Cobolli of Italy, ranked 26th in the world, who beat his compatriot Matteo Arnaldi 6-3, 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-1. Sixth seed Djokovic, who is seeking his 25th Grand Slam title at the age of 38, won against a rough opponent, Corentin Moutet of France, defeating him in three sets, 6-3, 6-2 and 7-6(1) after saving a set point in the third.
De Miñaur, the ninth seed, won the first two sets against Alexander Bublik of Kazakhstan, ranked 62nd in the world. However, he ultimately lost with set scores of 2-6, 2-6, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 and 6-2. The Australian said he had suffered a mental slump due to the long season and lack of rest. Gauff, ranked No. 2 in the world, defeated 18-year-old Czech player Tereza Valentová, who won the junior tournament in 2024, in the qualifying round with 6-2, 6-4. A finalist in 2022 and semi-finalist in 2024, as well as the winner of the 2023 US Open, Gauff will compete for a place in the round of 16 against another Czech player, Marie Bouzková, who is ranked 47th in the world and has beaten Gauff in their two previous encounters.

Sixth seed Andreea, who reached the semi-finals in 2024 at just 17, beat American Ashlyn Krueger (35th in the world) 6-3, 6-4, and will play Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan (32nd favorite), who defeated Joanna Garland of Taiwan (who came through qualifying) 7-6(5), 6-3. Eighth-ranked American Madison Keys beat 38th-ranked British player Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-3 and will face her compatriot Sofia Kenin, ranked 30th, who defeated Belarusian player Victoria Azarenka 7-6 (5), 6-4.
