Instagram outage sparks chaos: Over 10,000 users report sudden web failures

New Delhi: Over 10,000 users in the United States reported Instagram issues on Wednesday night, which caused a massive outbreak of complaints on social media and outage-tracking sites. The hitch seemed to hit a part of the users, with several reporting that they could not load feeds or sign in using web browsers.

The reports of an abrupt withdrawal of service started rising quickly in the evening hours, according to outage-monitoring site Downdetector. Although the problem did not appear to affect all users simultaneously, the rise in the number of complaints from users indicated a significant outage that affected thousands of users.

Web users hit hardest during Instagram disruption

Downdetector data indicated over 10,000 incident reports at the highest time, and over 7,500 users likely reported a problem at approximately 5.30 pm Pacific Time. The majority of the complaints revolved around the Instagram web-based platform as opposed to the application.

Some of the users who sought to log in to the platform using browsers received an error message that read, “Sorry, something went wrong. We are trying to have this fixed up right away.” Screenshots of the message soon spread on X, with angry users sharing their experiences.

Mobile app largely unaffected as reports decline

Conversely, the number of reports on problems with the Instagram app was lower, implying that mobile access did not change significantly. Gradually, as the evening went on, Downdetector data showed that complaints had steadily decreased, meaning that the service could have begun to regain its position.

By the moment of writing, the parent company of Instagram, Meta Platforms, had not issued a formal message regarding the reason behind the outage or the restoration of all the services. On the side of the users, mixed results were reported since some started getting access gradually.
