US-Iran War: As soon as the Strait of Hormuz was closed, the war in the Middle East deepened. After the attack on the cargo ship, America launched its third military attack, while there are signs of a major crisis on oil supply and the global market.
US-Iran Conflict 2026: The Middle East is currently sitting on a pile of gunpowder and on Sunday this gunpowder ignited once again. America’s anger reached the seventh sky after Iran attacked a commercial cargo ship in the international waterway, Hormuz Strait. Amidst the tough stance of US President Donald Trump, the US Forces have launched a new wave of massive air strikes on Iran for the third consecutive night. Many cities in southern Iran have been shaken by the echo of the explosions, and with this, the complete closure of the world’s most important oil supply route ‘Strait of Hormuz’ has been announced.
Bloody game at sea: Iran attack on Cyprus ship!
The entire fire broke out when Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted the M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cypriot-flagged container ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Iran openly fired on the ship, causing heavy damage to the engine room and a massive fire on the ship. After this attack, a civilian crew member of the ship is said to be missing. CENTCOM made it clear that Iran was given the last chance to comply with international rules, in which it completely failed. In response, on the orders of the Commander-in-Chief, the US military launched the third round of military action against Iran at 7:15 pm (ET). US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warned bluntly: “Iran made a very bad decision, and now they will pay a heavy price.”

Iran shaken by explosions: American missiles rained from the sky
As America launched its third round of attacks, many cities in Iran trembled. According to Iran’s IRIB state broadcaster, local residents in Asluyeh and Bandar Deir in southern Iran heard several loud explosions one after the other. Apart from this, three massive explosions each were recorded in the strategically important Bandar Abbas and Sirik Port City, while Chabahar Port City was hit by two huge blasts. Asluyeh town in Bushehr province witnessed four back-to-back blasts, causing panic in the entire area. Iran has strongly condemned this step of America and called it a direct violation of the ceasefire agreement. The new Iranian leadership has threatened to give a very ‘strong’ and serious response by targeting all American military bases present in the region.
Why did Iran close the Strait of Hormuz? Crisis looms on global economy!
Amidst this military confrontation, IRGC has made a very dangerous announcement. Iran has completely closed the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial and maritime traffic “until further notice and the end of US interference”. This decision is like breaking the backbone of the global economy. The Strait of Hormuz is the world’s most important shipping route, through which approximately one-fifth (20%) of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass. The closure of this route has created a stir in the global oil market and oil prices have started touching the sky. If this deadlock continues for a long time, the prices of petrol and diesel across the world could reach record levels, which would create a threat of global recession.

Diplomacy behind the scenes: Oman and Qatar’s ‘double corridor’ plan
While on one side missiles are being fired, on the other side diplomatic efforts behind the scenes have also intensified to stop the war. Officials from Oman, Qatar and Iran are holding an emergency meeting in Muscat. To reduce tensions, Oman has proposed a ‘double transit corridor’. Under this scheme:
- Southern Corridor: Which will pass through the maritime area of Oman, from there international ships will have the freedom to pass safely without any restriction and without any fees.
- Northern Corridor: Ships passing through Iran’s maritime zone will have to obtain prior approval from Tehran.
However, this peace proposal has not been finalized yet. Donald Trump had previously warned that if Iran did not stop threatening the US, he would wipe out Iran with “1000 missiles”. On the other hand, Iran says that no talks are possible until America implements the old agreements and lifts the sanctions. Now it remains to be seen whether this conversation of Muscat is able to cool the fire of war, or the world is going to witness a big global war.
Trump administration’s stern warning, Iran’s tough stance too
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Iran had made a “wrong decision” and would now pay a price. At the same time, US President Donald Trump has already warned that if Iran attacks American interests, America will give a very harsh response. On the other hand, Iran has made it clear that before any new talks, America will have to respect the earlier agreements. Tehran says further talks will not be possible unless old agreements related to shipping and oil exports are implemented.
Why has the world’s concern over the oil market increased?
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most important energy lines in the world. A large part of the global oil and gas supply passes through this sea route. In such a situation, if this waterway remains blocked for a long time, there may be a sharp rise in the prices of crude oil in the international market and a wide impact on the supply chain. Energy experts believe that if military tension increases further, its impact will not be limited to the Middle East only, but the global economy may also be affected.
