There are many stories of Dwijapriya Sankashti Chaturthi, but one story is very popular. According to this story, once a game of Chaupar was going on between Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati. At that time there was no one else who could be given the role of judge of the game. Then Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati made a clay idol and brought it to life.
After this, the child made from the statue was given the role of judge of the game. The game started again between the two. Every time Mother Parvati was defeating Lord Shiva in the game, but once the child mistakenly declared Lord Shiva victorious. Mother Parvati got angry at this mistake of the child. In anger he cursed the child to become lame.
After this the child apologized to Mother Parvati for his mistake, but the mother said that the curse given cannot be taken back. Then the child wanted to know from Mother Parvati the solution to end the curse. Mother told him the solution. Mother Parvati told the child to worship Ganpati Bappa with true heart and fast on Sankashti Chaturthi of Phalgun month. With this you will be freed from my curse. The child did as per the advice of Mother Parvati and he was cured.
