Prime Minister’s Museum has launched ‘Jan Se Gana Tak’ initiative for school students of Delhi. It aims to educate students about India’s Constitution, democratic traditions and national values. This program will promote civic engagement through experiential learning.
New Delhi [भारत]July 12 (ANI): Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya has launched a unique educational outreach initiative called ‘Jan Se Gana Tak’. It aims to introduce the higher secondary school students of Delhi to the constitutional foundations, democratic traditions and national values that have shaped the Republic of India. ‘From Jana to Gana’ symbolizes the journey from an individual, i.e. ‘Jana’, to a collective constitutional republic, i.e. ‘Gana’. It reminds young learners that democracy is sustained not only through institutions, but also through informed, responsible and participatory citizens.
Through this initiative, the Prime Minister’s Museum aspires to inspire a generation that understands its constitutional heritage, is proud of India’s democratic heritage and recognizes its role in shaping the future of the nation.
Opportunity to understand the Constitution beyond books
Designed as an immersive museum-based learning experience, the program seeks to take constitutional education beyond textbooks and classrooms. Through specially designed exhibitions, scholarly interpretation and meaningful dialogue, students are encouraged to understand the Constitution not just as a legal document, but as a living expression of India’s collective aspirations, responsibilities and democratic spirit.
This program includes an introduction to the Prime Minister’s Museum and a specially curated walkthrough of the Constitution galleries. These galleries present various aspects of the creation, evolution and functioning of the Constitution of India through in-depth exhibitions, historical narratives, archival material and innovative ways of storytelling.
The walkthrough is followed by an interactive session led by a qualified scholar, in which students are invited to ask questions, exchange ideas and reflect on constitutional principles such as justice, liberty, equality, fraternity, citizenship, representation and public participation. This initiative is designed to encourage critical thinking, while helping young learners connect historical developments with the functioning of contemporary democracy.
Constitutional History and Contribution of Prime Ministers
At the heart of ‘Jan Se Gana Tak’ lies the objective of enabling students to understand “India, i.e. Bharat” through the lens of the Constitution. This program provides an opportunity to explore how India’s civilizational values, social diversity and democratic traditions find expression in its constitutional framework.
The initiative also highlights the important role played by India’s Prime Ministers in strengthening democratic institutions, responding to national challenges, and translating constitutional ideals into policies and programs. By connecting constitutional history with the leadership and contributions of successive Prime Ministers, this program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of India’s journey as a democratic nation.
These schools took part in the first program
The inaugural ‘Jan Se Gana Tak’ walk held on 10th July 2026 was attended by 21 students from five leading schools of Delhi: Apeejay School, Ahalcon Public School, Vidya Bharati School, Modern School and Venkateshwar International School. Students enthusiastically participated in the scholar-led walkthrough and interactive discussion. The session encouraged them to examine the Constitution as an enduring source of national unity and to appreciate the responsibilities that come with democratic citizenship.
This program reflects the Prime Minister’s Museum’s commitment to supplement formal education through experiential learning. By transforming the museum into a space for dialogue, discovery and civic engagement, the initiative seeks to promote constitutional awareness, historical understanding and national consciousness among young citizens. This program will be held every Friday for selected students recommended by the participating schools. Schools wishing to enroll students or participate in future sessions may contact Prime Minister Museum officials through the official email addresses available on the Museum website. This continued engagement is expected to bring more young learners closer to India’s constitutional heritage and democratic values. (ANI)
