Brighton and Hove Albion’s super-subs stunned Premier League champions Liverpool as the Seagulls kept their faint hopes of a European spot alive with a thrilling 3-2 win on Monday night.
Conor Bradley celebrated his new Liverpool contract by setting up Harvey Elliott’s opening goal inside ten minutes, but Brighton responded well and deservedly levelled when Yasin Ayari finished off a fine move.
Liverpool were ahead again moments before half time as Dominik Szoboszlai’s cross from the angle snuck over the head of Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
After the break, Mohamed Salah missed a glorious chance to equal the record for Premier League goal involvements in a single season as he turned wide from just six yards after being set up by Cody Gakpo.
Kaoru Mitoma came off the bench to equalise again after Alisson had saved from Danny Welbeck, with the winger controlling a rising ball to finish the rebound.
And another substitute, Jack Hinshelwood, also played his part to score the winning goal two minutes after his introduction as Brighton moved up to eighth place in the table.

Liverpool on the beach?22:05 , Jamie Braidwood
The champions showed some flashes, but you could tell who wanted to win that match in the last half-hour, when Brighton were far sharper.
Still, Liverpool would have probably won that had Mohamed Salah not missed from four yards out when the Reds led 2-1.
To add to Salah’s frustration, that would have been the chance to equal the record for single-season Premier League goal involvements!
That’s now just one point in three games for Liverpool since they won the Premier League at home to Tottenham.
They will look to finish off on a high note when Anfield celebrates the Premier League title lift at home to Crystal Palace.
Brighton for Europe?22:02 , Jamie Braidwood
Brighton retake 8th position in the Premier League and are three points clear of 9th-placed Brentford with just one game to go.
The top-eight will be theirs if they get a point at Tottenham, or as long as they match Brentford’s result at Wolves.
But will eighth be enough for European football? They would still need Chelsea to finish 7th and win the Conference League.
Or, they need Chelsea to finish 6th and win the Conference League and for Newcastle to finish 7th.

Arne Slot explains Liverpool changes19:39 , Jamie Braidwood
Arne Slot, speaking to Sky Sports, explains Liverpool’s changes against Brighton:
“As the job of a Liverpool player always is to win a game of football, but as you saw in the line-up, it’s also interesting for me to see a few players that we haven’t seen enough, if you look at their quality.
“I talk about Jarell Quansah, Harvey Elliot, Federico Chiesa, so this is a good moment for them to show where they are against a very difficult opponent.
“I think it’s impossible [to rest Mo Salah] – if I would’ve left him out, I think I could’ve expected a knock on my door!”
‘Europe is still possible’ for Brighton19:20 , Jamie Braidwood

“We know there are still a lot of things left in the season so far. Europe is possible but we have to focus on our job.”

He already has the 38-game record, with 28 goals and 18 assists, and Liverpool head coach Arne Slot says it would have been difficult to keep him out of the team as he chases more records!

Mohamed Salah joined the backing of Trent Alexander-Arnold when he revealed to Gary Neville that he was “surprised” to hear the 26-year-old booed and told Gary Neville that he hopes the reception will be different for his final two games of the season.
“Absolutely,” Salah replied when asked if he was saddened by the reception. “I was surprised because it is not how we react as Liverpool fans. We shouldn’t react this way with anyone. We always appreciate the people who came here, even if it was for six months.
“Imagine someone who gave his all for 20 years. It shouldn’t be like this and I hope it will change in the next game – Brighton or the last game of the season – because he deserves a farewell.”
Alexander-Arnold boos a ‘step too far’, says Carragher18:29 , Jamie Braidwood

Arne Slot does not regret playing Alexander-Arnold last week18:19 , Jamie Braidwood
Arne Slot said he would be prepared to play Trent Alexander-Arnold again this season after the departing Liverpool vice-captain was booed by some fans at Anfield last week.
“The thing I consider is I want to win a game of football and if we think we can win with Trent, I owe it to his team-mates and to the fans, because they (Liverpool) hired me to win as many games of football as possible,” said Slot.
“And if I think there’s a better chance of winning with Trent, then I will (pick him).
“If I think it’s a distraction or whatever can happen for us not to play a good game of football, then I might make another decision.”
Arne Slot enjoys holiday as he turns mind to next season18:15 , Jamie Braidwood
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was on the beach this week – quite literally, as he headed to party in Ibiza after the Reds won the Premier League.
Did you see me this week on social media?” the Dutchman quipped at his press conference. “But even if you are celebrating over there, it doesn’t mean the whole day you aren’t thinking about something else.
“But a larger part of my mind now is already into next season, than it would have been had the next two games still been decisive for us.
“It’s a normal situation that my thoughts, if I’m on the couch tonight, are more into next season than they would have been if the games were still very important.”
How Crystal Palace’s FA Cup win impacts the race for Europe18:07 , Jamie Braidwood
Brighton remain in the hunt for a top-eight finish, with a return to European football still on the cards for the Seagulls.

For the visitors, Joe Gomez is the only injury absentee, though the England defender will hope to be back for the final game of the season next week.

Good evening18:00 , Jamie Braidwood
Brighton face Liverpool in the Premier League with the hosts still hunting potential European football after Crystal Palace won the FA Cup.
Both Brighton and Brentford can qualify for Europe through finishing eighth if certain circumstances fall their way, with Manchester City and Carabao Cup winners Newcastle likely qualifying for the Champions League through their own respective league finishes.
And so only one side has anything to really play for this evening, with Liverpool having been on holiday at points this week as they celebrate winning the Premier League title last month.
Arne Slot has previously admitted that it’ll be difficult to motivate his side for the rest of the season, but last week’s draw against Arsenal shows that the champions are still playing well despite having already wrapped up the title.
