Rajpal Yadav case update: Delhi High Court orders actor to surrender | Details inside

Rajpal Yadav case update: The Delhi High Court has ordered Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav to surrender before the concerned jail superintendent by 4 PM on February 4, 2026, in connection with multiple cheque dishonour cases. The court withdrew the leniency earlier extended to the actor after he failed to honour repeated payment commitments made during the proceedings.

Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma noted that the court had shown considerable indulgence over a prolonged period. This relief was granted solely on the basis of assurances that the disputes would be settled amicably and that outstanding dues would be cleared. However, those assurances were not fulfilled.

Delhi High Court directs Rajpal Yadav to surrender

The trial court’s sentence had been stayed in June 2024 to allow the Hungama actor time to resolve the matter. According to the High Court, several deadlines were fixed thereafter, but payments running into crores of rupees were not made. Even partial payments, which the actor had promised through demand drafts and instalments, were not deposited within the stipulated timelines.

The court rejected explanations offered for technical or typographical errors in the demand drafts, describing them as unconvincing. It also underlined that the commitments were made openly in court through senior counsel and that additional time was granted only on the actor’s own instructions.

Given the repeated breaches and the admitted liability, the High Court refused to grant any further relief. It directed that the amount already deposited with the Registrar General be released to the complainant company. The court also ordered Rajpal Yadav to surrender to serve the sentence imposed by the trial court.

What’s next for Rajpal Yadav?

While passing the order, the judge clarified that the short window granted for surrender was allowed only in the interest of justice. The actor had informed the court that he was engaged in professional commitments in Mumbai, which prompted the limited extension.

The matter has been listed for February 5, 2026, when the court will seek confirmation from jail authorities regarding compliance with the surrender order.
