New Delhi: Slamming the BJP, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday accused the government of undermining parliamentary democracy by refusing debate and blocking questions in the Lok Sabha.
Kharge alleged that the ruling party was attempting to “split the country” while systematically weakening democratic institutions. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was avoiding accountability by not responding to questions raised in Parliament.
According to Kharge, out of nearly 8,100 questions submitted by members, around 78 per cent were rejected in the Lok Sabha. He said questions related to the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and the inclusion of Ladakh under the Sixth Schedule were turned down on the grounds that they were “hypothetical”.
The Congress chief further alleged that the government was pushing through new laws without adequate discussion, despite repeated demands from the opposition for detailed debates. He claimed the ruling dispensation was unwilling to engage with dissenting voices in Parliament.
