“Come Back Home”: Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal makes emotional appeal to ex-employees

New Delhi: Deepinder Goyal, founder of Zomato, has made a public appeal to former employees, asking them to consider returning as the company enters a new stage of growth. In a post shared on X, Goyal said the organisation now operating under parent group Eternal needs people who already understand its culture and values.

He acknowledged that Zomato may not have offered the right environment for everyone in the past. Still, he said many ex-employees built a deep emotional connection with the company and may not have found the same sense of belonging elsewhere. His message was clear. The door is open again, even for those who were previously asked to leave.

An open invitation to return

Speaking directly to the former employees, Goyal claimed that he was not clinging on to old differences. He urged the people who were absent since they believed that it was too late to change their minds. He said that Eternal already had over 400 persons on their second or third stints and many of them were now doing their best work.

Goyal attributed this change to individual development as well as internal developments. According to him, the group is better organized and not chaotic as it was before. He also confessed that he has gained lessons through previous leadership experiences, further stating that the people have grown with the organisation.

Familiar culture, a broader category

Goyal emphasized the growth of Eternal in various companies such as Blinkit, Blinkit Ambulances, District, Hyperpure, Nugget and Feeding India. He claimed that now the group requires seasoned hands with prior knowledge of the standards and methods of operation of the company.

Addressing the issues that surround leadership transitions, Goyal explained that his departure and the lack of the CEO title should not be perceived as an obstacle. He emphasized that titles have never been a big issue at Eternal and he ensured that he is still very much engaged. He ended his message to alumni in a straightforward way, saying that in case Zomato could feel home at one time, now is the moment to go back.
