S Janaki Death News: A very sad news is coming from the Indian music world. The country’s veteran singer S Janaki, who ruled millions of hearts with her sweet voice, passed away on Saturday. At the age of 88, he has said goodbye to this world forever. She was fondly called the ‘Nightingale of the South’ and ‘Janaki Amma’ throughout the country. His granddaughter Apsara Vaidyaula confirmed the news by sharing a very emotional post on Instagram. Apsara told that Janaki Amma breathed her last peacefully amidst her family. The family has appealed to the fans to maintain privacy in this sad time.
‘She was a legend to the world, a loving grandmother to us’
Janaki Amma’s granddaughter Apsara wrote on Instagram, ‘It is with a heavy heart that I have to tell you that my beloved grandmother and great singer S. Janaki is no more with us. She passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Even though our hearts are heavy, we are thankful to God for his wonderful life, which spread happiness in the lives of crores of people with his immortal voice. She further wrote that for the world she may have been a big star, but for us she was a very kind, down to earth and loving grandmother whose memories will always be with us.
Who was S Janaki?
S. Janaki was born on 23 April 1938 in Pallapatla, Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh (then Madras Presidency). His father Sistala Sriramamurthy was an Ayurvedic doctor and teacher. Janaki Amma did not take any major or formal training in classical music. He learned only the basics of music from Nadaswaram maestro Pyidiswami. When she was just 9 years old, she performed on stage for the first time. In the year 1959, she married V Ramprasad, who fully supported her in her career. Her husband died of a heart attack in 1997.
First song at the age of 19 and a long journey of 60 years
Janaki Amma could speak and write not only Telugu but many languages like Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi very easily. At the age of just 19, he entered the world of playback singing with the 1957 Tamil film ‘Vindhayin Vilayattu’. In the very first year he had recorded songs in 6 different languages. He ruled the music world for almost 60 years. In the year 2016, he retired from films and stage shows. However, in the year 2018, she once again came in front of the mic for her fans for the Tamil film ‘Pannadi’ and recorded her last song.
More than 20 thousand songs were released, received many awards
S Janaki’s magical voice was so amazing that there was never any dearth of awards in her account. He won the National Film Awards 4 times in his career. Won a total of 33 State Film Awards from different states. In his career spanning over six decades, he created history by singing more than 20,000 songs in many languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. His voice became a part of the memories of many generations. Be it romantic songs, devotional songs or emotional songs, he had a distinct identity in all types of songs.
Had refused to accept Padma Bhushan
In the year 2013, the Central Government had announced to give Padma Bhushan to S Janaki. But he refused to accept this honour. He said that considering his long contribution in the field of music, he is being given this honor very late. He had also said that he should also be considered for the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honour.
