Holika Dahan 2026: Every year the festival of Holi is celebrated on the full moon day of Phalgul month. Yohar is one of the most colorful and joyous festivals of India. Holi is not limited to colors only, rather this festival is considered a symbol of love, harmony and mutual brotherhood. On the day of Holi, people forget old differences and apply colors and gulal to each other.

According to religious texts, Holika Dahan is performed on the night of the full moon date of Phalgun month. Holika Dahan is celebrated as a symbol of the victory of good over evil. According to Hindu religious beliefs, the fire of Holika Dahan provides freedom from all the sorrows and sufferings of life, but pundits and astrologers say that this time there are three big obstacles coming on Holika Dahan.

When is Holika Dahan 2026 (When is Holika Dahan 2026?

According to the Vedic calendar, the full moon date of Phalgun month will start this year on March 2, 2026 at 5:55 pm. This date will end on March 3, 2026 at 05:07 pm. According to this, Holika Dahan will be done on March 3, 2026.

Lunar eclipse is the first obstacle to Holika Dahan.

Obstacles in Holika Dahan are coming due to Bhadra period and lunar eclipse. Lunar eclipse will occur on March 3. This eclipse will be visible in India also. Because of this, its Sutak period will also be valid in India. Sutak period of lunar eclipse starts 9 hours before. The lunar eclipse will last from 03:23 pm to 06:47 pm on March 3. Its Sutak period will start at 06:20 am in the morning and will end with the eclipse at 06:47 pm in the evening.

Bhadra will become a hindrance in Holika Dahan

The shadow of Bhadra Kaal is also going to remain on the day of Holika Dahan. Bhadra Kaal on Holika Dahan will start at 01:25 on the night of March 2. Bhadra Kaal will end early in the morning at 04:30 AM. In such a situation, Bhadra Kaal on Holika Dahan will last for about 3 hours.

This is also an obstacle

This year, the full moon date of Phalgun month will end on March 3 at 05:07 pm. After this, Pratipada Tithi will take place. Whereas there is a rule to perform Holika Dahan only on Purnima Tithi.

These are the solutions

Pundits and astrologers have given its solutions according to the scriptures. Do the first one on the night of March 2 in the tail period of Bhadra i.e. between 01:25 and 03:37. Holika Dahan is possible during the tail period of Bhadra. The second solution is to burn Holika before sunrise after the end of Bhadra Kaal on 3rd March between 05.24 am to 06.35 am. If you cannot perform Holika Dahan at both these times, then do it after the eclipse ends. However, this is not according to the scriptures.

According to astrologers, it is mentioned in the Panchang Dharma Sindhu and Niranya Sindhu that Holika Dahan can be done only when there is a full moon, Pradosh Kaal and there is no Bhadra Kaal. After the end of the eclipse on March 3, there will be Pradosh period. Although Pratipada Tithi will start with the end of Purnima, but Pratipada Dosh is the mildest.
