New Delhi: Sheffield United eased past Bristol City 3-0 to qualify for the final of the Championship playoff and are just one step away from returning to the Premier League.
The Blades, who took the lead in the first leg, winning 3-0 at Ashton Gate, entered the second leg in complete control.
Chris Wilder’s side were determined to put their top-flight disappointment behind them, showcasing composure and ruthlessness across both legs to firmly shut the door on Bristol City’s hopes.
The hosts didn’t hit top gear immediately but made their breakthrough four minutes before the half-time when Kieffer Moore headed in Harrison Burrows’ corner kick before the break, ending the Robins’ comeback hopes.

After the break, United extended their lead through Gus Hamer, who found space at the edge of the box and struck a deflected shot into the net following another well-worked corner. Bristol’s frustrations only grew as they struggled to create meaningful chances in response.
Callum O’Hare made the night worse for Bristol as he ended the match with a tidy finish late on. The goal was a product of clever movement in the box, with Tyrese Campbell providing the low cross and Burrows cleverly stepping over the ball to leave it for O’Hare to tuck away. It was a clinical performance from the Blades full of balance, intensity, and control across the two ties.
Wembley awaits as Blades look to end play-off curse
Sheffield United’s passage to the final brings them within touching distance of the Premier League once again. They have historically struggled in play-offs, having never won one in nine attempts and failing to score in all four of their previous finals. But this season has brought renewed belief under Wilder, who has rejuvenated a squad that stumbled out of the top flight just a season ago.
The Blades will now face either Sunderland or Coventry City in the final at Wembley on Saturday, May 25. With Sunderland holding a slender 2-1 lead from the first leg of their semi-final, many expect them to meet Sheffield United in a mouth-watering decider.
