WPL: Delhi reach fourth consecutive final after knocking out Gujarat in Eliminator

New Delhi: Delhi Capitals booked their final berth in the Women’s Premier League for a fourth consecutive season after thrashing Gujarat Giants in the Eliminator clash on Tuesday. Chasing a total of 169 runs, batters guided the side home in just 15.4 overs after the bowlers had managed to restrict the Giants to a modest total in the first innings.

Lizelle Lee, Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt scored 43, 41 and 32 unbeaten runs to guide the side home comfortably and set up the final clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) two days later. Shafali Verma also contributed up front with 31 runs, stitching a useful opening stand with Lizelle which set the base for the side in the chase.

Giants batters falter

For the Giants, Georgia Wareham proved to be the pick of the bowlers with two wickets while Rajeshwari Gayakwad also chipped in a with a wicket but they failed to stop the Capitals from registering an easy win. Earlier in the first innings, Beth Mooney and Georgia Wareham scored 62 and 35 runs respectively to get the side to a modest total as rest of the batters in the team failed to contribute much.

Kashvee Gautam scored 18 quick runs towards the end but the lack of support from other batters was what cost Giants the game. For the Capitals, Chinelle Henry and Nandani Sharma put up their best effort with three and two wickets respectively to stop the Gujarat side to a modest total. Apart from them, Minnu Mani also claimed a scalp to help in the cause.
