Anthrax Outbreak In Thailand: Deadly Anthrax infection, which is caused by the Bacillus anthracis bacteria, has made a surprising reappearance in Thailand after 30 years. According to the latest data, the bacterial infection has already led to the death of 52 year 52-year-old man, and more than 5 people have already tested positive.

According to a notice issued by the Thai health department on May 1, local health officials confirmed the death of a 53-year-old man in Mukdahan province. The man had come in contact with the carcass of a cow at a village gathering. Within 24 hours of that report, a second man with similar exposure was hospitalised and placed on a course of antibiotics under close medical supervision.

Anthrax is a deadly bacterial infectious disease which is transmitted through the spores of bacteria that can be found in soil, and it mainly affects domesticated and wild animals. However, in the last few months, the bacteria have gained the ability to evade human immunity. “The Anthrax-causing bacteria are not restricted to animals and can also be fatal for human beings. The symptoms for the disease include lesions or blisters on the skin along with swollen lymph nodes, the symptoms are not limited and can also vary.

Is there a vaccine to cure this infection? Speaking to the media, the officials stated that there is no vaccine for humans at this time. However, infections can be treated effectively with intravenous antibiotics.

Taking cognizance of the situation, medical professionals have advised avoiding the consumption of raw meat, which is prevalent in some parts of India.

Thailand has implemented a mandatory online Digital Arrival Card for all foreign visitors arriving by air, land, or sea. Accessible via the Thai Immigration Bureau’s website, this initiative aims to strengthen traveler surveillance against human trafficking and illegal activities.
