Chennai: The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast a shift in weather patterns, predicting the possibility of light rain in South Tamil Nadu and the delta regions over the next two days. This comes as parts of the state, including Coimbatore and Tirunelveli (Nellai), experienced rainfall yesterday, while other regions remained dry with a noticeable dip in minimum temperatures.
Tamil Nadu weather report: Isolated rain today, broader showers tomorrow
According to the latest bulletin, the weather today (February 3, 2026) will see isolated light rain only in the Nilgiris district, with dry conditions prevailing elsewhere in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. However, moderate morning fog is expected in several northern and western districts including Nilgiris, Salem, Krishnagiri, Vellore, and Ranipet.
The rain activity is expected to spread slightly on Tuesday, February 4, and Wednesday, February 5. On these days, light rain is possible at isolated places across South Tamil Nadu, the delta districts, and Karaikal. Dry weather will persist in other areas. The same set of districts is also likely to experience moderate early morning fog during this period.
Chennai weather and weekly trend: Dry spell ahead
For Chennai and its suburbs, the RMC predicts a partly cloudy sky today with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 30-31°C to a minimum of 21-22°C. Looking at the broader weekly outlook, a dry spell is expected across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from February 6 to February 9. Additionally, minimum temperatures in the region are likely to remain near or below normal until February 7. The current conditions are attributed to a lower-level atmospheric circulation over the Lakshadweep area and variations in easterly wind speeds.
