It has been officially revealed that Dhurandhar: The Revenge will stream on JioHotstar, moving away from Netflix, which had premiered the first instalment. The platform shift has made fans curious, especially given the unprecedented success of the original film on OTT and the massive expectations from the sequel directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh.
Dhurandhar 2 Moves From Netflix To JioHotstar
The confirmation came alongside the unveiling of the first-look poster of Dhurandhar 2 on Tuesday. The poster features Ranveer Singh standing centre-frame in a black trench coat, his hair loose, set against a striking red background. While his intense look dominated the frame, there were other details as well – the presence of Star Gold and JioHotstar logos in the corner, signalling the film’s new streaming home.
According to an industry source, the shift in platform is a standard industry practice rather than a creative or contractual complication. “Streaming rights always go to the highest bidder, and in this case, it was JioHotstar,” a source told The Hollywood Reporter India, adding that there is no binding rule that a sequel must stream on the same platform as its predecessor.
Why The Stakes Are High For Dhurandhar 2
Directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar currently stands as the highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, with a worldwide collection exceeding Rs 1,300 crore. Released in December last year, the film rewrote box-office history by earning close to Rs 900 crore in India alone. The sequel, therefore, is riding on sky-expectations.
Several trade pundits are estimating minimum lifetime domestic collection of Rs 1000 crore from Dhurandhar 2, something that has never been achieved by any Indian film. The film will have to deliver on the content front to unlock this historic achievement.
Dhurandhar 2 Release Date And Cast
Produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 19, coinciding with Eid, Gudi Padwa, and Ugadi. The film will release in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
Apart from Ranveer Singh, the film also stars Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi. At the box office, it will clash with Yash’s Toxic, setting the stage for one of the biggest cinematic showdowns of the year.
