The war of Mahabharata was not only of weapons but also of emotions and religion. In this great battle that lasted for 18 days on the land of Kurukshetra, many such moments came which changed history. But the 17th day was different from all. On this day, the biggest enemy of Pandavas, but the eldest son of Kunti, Danveer Karna, met his end. It is said that after Karna’s death, Lord Krishna himself could not stop his tears. After all, what happened that day that forced even Lord Krishna to mourn?
Karna’s immense sacrifice and loyalty
When Karna was martyred by Arjuna’s arrows, Shri Krishna was moved remembering his bravery and the struggles of his life. Karna, despite knowing that the defeat of the Kauravas was certain, did not leave his friend Duryodhana. His greatness like his promise to his mother Kunti and donating armor and earrings to Indra had touched Krishna’s heart. Krishna knew that Karna was actually the elder brother of the Pandavas. A warrior who was insulted throughout his life by being called a son of a son, remained within his dignity till the end. When Krishna performed the last rites of Karna in his own hands as Karna had asked for a boon, he became emotional remembering his loyalty and loneliness.
the pain of a horrific massacre
By the 17th day the land of Kurukshetra was drenched in blood. Maharashtrians like Bhishma Pitamah and Guru Drona were gone. The dead bodies of millions of soldiers and the lamentations of widows awakened the compassion within Krishna. He was deeply saddened to see the cruelty of war and the loss of humanity.
Gandhari’s curse and future indication
Seeing the end of the war, Krishna was also aware of the fate that was about to come in the form of the curse of Gandhari. He knew that just as the Kuru dynasty was being destroyed, in the same way one day his own Yadav clan would also be destroyed. The burden of the heavy price he had paid for the establishment of justice and religion was shed in the form of his tears.
Did Krishna really cry?
According to mythology, Krishna’s crying was a part of his human play. He wanted to tell the world that for the victory of religion, many times one has to sacrifice one’s own people and good hearted people, which is very painful for God also.
