Job security is decreasing in India. A youth from Bengaluru was fired before the end of his probation. He had been planning to fire his team for 10 months over what he called the companies’ ‘moral bankruptcy’.
SThe idea of job security emerged as a necessity long ago due to labor movements across the world. After this, most countries made special laws to save the jobs of common workers. But, after Covid, many countries ignored these laws. This opened the way for company owners to earn more profits. The result was that even employees working in many companies for years were made unemployed in a single day citing trivial reasons. According to reports, this trend has increased recently in a country like India.
moral bankruptcy
When a young man named Jeevan, resident of Bengaluru, shared a similar experience that happened to him on social media, it went viral. He complained that he was fired from his job just a few days before the end of his three-month probation. In his video he talks about the moral bankruptcy in the job sector of Bengaluru. He says that he was shocked when he came to know from the company owner that the decision to eliminate his team had been under consideration for almost 10 months, even though he had worked hard for this job. Jeevan also asks why the startup was repeatedly hiring new employees when it had already planned to eliminate the positions.
Already decided, still…
The young man complains in his video that he was fired from the company a few days before the completion of his 3-month probation. He said, “I gave my blood and sweat for this job. I worked seven days a week, ten hours a day. Yet, yesterday (January 30) the owner of the company told me that the discussion of firing my team had been going on for 10 months.” The young man asks that if the management already knew this, then why were new people hired. He further said that this is not a business decision, but moral bankruptcy. Life says, “You bring people on a sinking ship, squeeze a few months of hard work out of them, and finally abandon them like balance sheet assets.”
job security a dream
I was offered a severance package of one and a half months and was told that I should be grateful for it. But who will answer this gap in my career and my mental stress? Life asks. Life is a reminder that job security may be a dream these days, but basic professional integrity should not be. He further says that if we do not raise our voice against the layoff plans, nothing will change. She ended her video with a note for startup founders. ‘You didn’t fail your marks. But, you failed your people. Jeevan wrote in his note. This note of life got a lot of support on social media.
