Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery on Tuesday. As per widespread reports, he could miss up to two months of action.
The injury is expected to rule him out for the remainder of the La Liga season and puts his participation in this summer’s Club World Cup in doubt. The club’s priority is to ensure the centre-back recovers fully in time for preseason and to avoid any unnecessary risks in his rehabilitation.
However, Rudiger remains determined to make a swift return. In an Instagram post, he vowed to “I will do everything” possible to recover in time for both the Club World Cup with Madrid and Germany’s Nations League campaign this summer.
Real Madrid’s defensive crisis has deepened with Rudiger becoming the latest casualty, following knee surgery that could keep him out for two months. The German defender joins right-back Dani Carvajal and fellow defender Eder Militao both are recovering from ACL injuries on the sidelines.
The injury woes don’t end there. Midfielder Eduardo Camavinga who has often filled in at left-back, is also set to miss the Club World Cup due to an abductor tear.
Since arriving on a free transfer from Chelsea in 2022, Rudiger has been a key figure for Madrid is making 151 appearances. He played a crucial role in their 2024 La Liga and Champions League triumphs as well as their 2023 Copa del Rey victory. His absence now leaves manager Carlo Ancelotti with limited options in defense ahead of a busy summer schedule.
The German wrote, “After I have played more than seven month with severe pain, it was unfortunately unavoidable that I had to undergo a meniscus surgery. Now I’m finally pain-free again, and the surgery was a success”.
“Thanks to the medical team and especially @guidospiran. I want to be able to play again as soon as possible as two big tournaments with the Nations League and the Club World Cup are in front of me, but I have to look from week to week now and we will see.”
“I will do everything I can to make it happen. See you soon and take care of yourselves,” he concluded.
Rudiger’s last contribution for Los Blancos came in the Copa del Rey Final against Barcelona. He was shown a Red Card as well for throwing objects at the referee as Real Madrid lost the final 2-3.
