Delhi riots 2020 bail: The Delhi High Court has dismissed the bail plea of JNU alumni Shaziil Imam, Omar Khalid and others, who have been jailed for 5 years on the illegal activity (UAPA) case related to the February 2020 riots conspiracy. A bench of Justice Naveen Chawla and Justice Shailinder Kaur has given its verdict on the case. Apart from these, the bail pleas of Abdul Khalid, Athar Khan, Mohammad Salim Khan, Shifa-ur-Raheman, Miran Haider, Gulfisha Fatima, Shadab Ahmed have also been rejected by the court.
53 people died in north-eastern Delhi riots

In Delhi, especially in areas like Jafarabad, anti -CAA demonstrations continued from mid -December 2019, and local tension was increasing.
February 23, 2020
BJP leader Kapil Mishra gave the police an ultimatum to vacate the Jafarabad demonstration site and threatened to take action if not doing so within three days. Stones and clashes between pro -CAA and anti -groups started in Maujpur Chowk, Zafarabad and Chand Bagh areas, vehicles and shops were vandalized.
24 February, 2020
Communal violence increased and spread to more areas. During this time, cars, markets and houses were set on fire and five people, including a police constable, died. Delhi Police and paramilitary forces were deployed. When the arson intensified, the Delhi Fire Service took action on dozens of emergency calls. Both Hindu and Muslim mobs targeted each other and properties. The acid was thrown and the reports of the firing came.

Riots reached their peak with severe violence in areas like Maujpur, Brahmapuri, Ashok Nagar and Shiv Vihar. Religious places including mosques were vandalized and set on fire. The death toll increased rapidly, stone pelting and firing continued. Orders were given to shoot in the affected areas. IB officer Ankit Sharma was found dead, allegedly stabbed several times.

The government’s response intensified; National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited the affected areas and assured the residents of security measures. Violence began to decrease due to large -scale deployment of police and paramilitary forces.

More than 53 deaths and 581 people were confirmed; Police investigation and arrests continued for months, and legal disputes will continue till 2025. The Delhi riots are considered one of the most serious communal conflicts in recent Indian history, with major events and failures in this date.
