Team India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, recently came into the limelight after it was revealed that he was threatened through two emails.
At first, it was speculated that a terror outfit like ISIS might be behind it. However, in a rather shocking turn of events, a 21-year-old engineering student has been nabbed from Gujarat. Jigneshsinh Parmar was reportedly identified by the authorities and later interrogated in the death threat matter.
Notably, Parmar was picked up by a team of Central District Police on Friday. In the aftermath, after learning about Parmar’s actions, his family claimed that he was suffering from some mental health issues. Furthermore, the Delhi Police revealed that the mail originated from a rather suspicious place. Not just that, the timing of the mail was also under question, as it was sent on the same day that the Pahalgam massacre happened in Jammu and Kashmir.
In this grave incident, around 26 people were killed. The concerned emails were sent on 22 April. Both emails carried just three words, viz. – “I kill you.” In this regard, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), M Harsha Vardhan, came forward to provide some crucial updates.
“Parmar is an engineering student. His family claims that he is suffering from mental health issues. Further investigation is in progress. We have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The matter is being investigated,” Vardhan was quoted as saying by News18.
“Gautam Gambhir is already a Delhi Police protectee and we do not comment on specific security arrangements,” he further added.
Speaking of the formal complaint, it was revealed that the complaint was duly received by the Rajinder Nagar Police Station regarding the death threat issued to the former BJP MP. For the unversed, this was not the first time the Indian head coach has received death threats. A similar incident occurred in 2022, after which his security was beefed up.
“Dear Sir, Namaskar. As we spoke, please find below the ‘Threat Mails’ received on the mail ID of Mr Gautam Gambhir (Ex-MP), Head Coach, Indian Cricket Team. Kindly register the FIR accordingly and ensure the safety and security of the family,” the complaint stated.

Last year, he was appointed as the head coach by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). In March 2025, under his guidance, the Rohit Sharma-led side lifted the coveted Champions Trophy in Dubai.
