Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also made many announcements for the health sector in the General Budget 2026. These include the construction of three new All India Ayurveda Institutes in the country and special announcements have also been made for the elderly. Apollo Hospitals Chairman Dr. Pratap C. Reddy has also given his reaction on Budget 2026. He has described the budget as strengthening the health system of the country. Dr. Reddy said that the announcements made by the Finance Minister in the budget will provide better health services to the common people and will also be of great benefit in research.

Dr. Reddy said that Budget Emphasis has been laid on increasing public health capacity, emphasizing prevention and strengthening the reach of health services in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Bio Pharma Shakti Initiative has also been mentioned in the budget. With its help, India’s life sciences and innovation ecosystem can be strengthened. Under this, along with new research institutes, 1000 recognized clinical trial sites will also be developed across the country. This will further increase research in the medical field and work can also be done towards the treatment of many diseases.

Advanced therapies will be developed

According to Dr. Reddy, this step will accelerate the development of advanced therapies and further strengthen India as a healthcare hub. With more research, work can be done on new treatments and even vaccines for dangerous diseases. Dr. Reddy said that the budget also mentions the creation of five hubs for medical tourism. This will further increase medical tourism in the states.

Special focus on mental health

Dr. Reddy said that in the budget, the Finance Minister has also announced the establishment of NIMHANS-2. Under this, new institutions will be built in Ranchi and Tezpur in the country, which will help in the upgradation of mental health institutions. With this step, patients suffering from mental health problems will be able to get better treatment facilities. This will also help in filling any gap in mental health services.

Initiative to reduce treatment costs

It has been decided to make 36 life saving medicines duty free in the budget. This will reduce the cost of treatment of patients.Dr. Pratap C. Reddy said that Apollo Hospitals will work with the government to implement these announcements at the ground level.
