Virender Sehwag lashed out at Glenn Maxwell and Liam Livingstone ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Sunday (April 20) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
After Maxwell was dropped from the PBKS line-up ahead of the reverse fixture at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and was benched for today’s clash too, RCB also decided to bench Livingstone, with Romario Shepherd taking his place in the playing XI. Reacting to the changes, Sehwag lashed out at Maxwell and Livingstone and questioned the desire of the duo to win the title. The ex-Indian opening batter claimed many overseas players come to the IPL to celebrate a holiday and the lack will to win the tournament for their team. “Their hunger is gone. Maxwell and Livingstone have lost their hunger. They came to celebrate a holiday. You can’t see any effection with their teams. They do not have the desire to do well for their team and win the title,’ said Sehwag on Cricbuzz. Recalling his tenure as Delhi Daredevils (DD) captain, Sehwag claimed he saw many overseas players who were not committed and claimed he had a discussion with the franchise owner to. However, he pointed out David Warner, Ab de Villiers, and Glenn Mcgrath as exceptions. “David Warner, Ab de Villiers, and Glenn Mcgrath. McGrath used to tell me, ‘why you are not playing me, I will win you the match.’ But I could play one of Dirk Nannes or Glenn Mcgrath. Apart from these 3, a lot of players came and left. You get to know when you lose a semi-final or playoffs, they ask ‘where is the party.’ You have lost, pack your back and go home. In that party, no one is concerned that you have lost a playoff match. That really hurts Indian players. I used to tell my owner to,” Sehwag added. In the 2025 IPL, Livingstone has played seven matches (six innings) and scored 87 runs and has just two wickets. On the other hand, Maxwell made 41 runs in six matches (five innings) and took four wickets. Intrestingly, Maxwell played for RCB last year while Livingstone was part of PBKS, where both disappointing campaigns too.
