Rohit Sharma on Sunday (April 20) moved within reach of leaders AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle for most man of the awards in Indian Premier League by winning his first award in the ongoing IPL 2025.
After compatriot and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli had drawn level with the Mumbai Indians skipper earlier in the day, Rohit stepped with his first fifty of the season to clinch his 20th player of the match award in IPL history.
Rohit achieved the feat of most IPL man of the match awards won by Indians during the Mumbai Indians’ clash against rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Rohit was adjudged the POTM winner after an unbeaten 76 off 45 balls powered MI to a 9-wicket win over CSK.
Earlier on Sunday (April 20), Kohli was level with Mahendra Singh Dhoni in second for most man of the match by Indians in the lucrative, but the RCB stalwart added one more to his tally and equalled Rohit’s record with an unbeaten 73 that powered his team home against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur.
In fact, even MS Dhoni had moved to 18 man of the awards also only at the start of the week by winning the award following CSK’s win over Lucknow Super Giants at the BRSABV Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.
Even KL Rahul of Delhi Capitals moved up the list with back-to-back player of the match awards in the ongoing season with match-winning knocks for his new team against CSK and RCB. Here is a look at the Indian players with most man of the match awards in IPL:
