The two day air show in Ranchi, which began on Saturday, aimed to inspire children and youth to dream of flying high. On Sunday, a large crowd, including school students, locals, and tourists, gathered at the Namkum Army Ground in the early morning to witness the aerial spectacle.
All nine Surya Kiran aircraft flew in close formation, while the synchronisation phase showcased smaller grounds executing dynamic low-level manoeuvres, some as low as 100 feet, officials said.
Citing the SKAT’s shows, IAF officer Kanwal Sandhu said, “The team has conducted 700 air shows across 72 cities and countries, including Thailand, Singapore, Laos, China, over the past 27 years. These formations symbolise unity, bravery and vigilance.”
Spectators were left mesmerised by the jets swooping, spinning, and slicing through the sky, performing barrel rolls, heart-shaped patterns and more.
On Saturday, only six aircrafts participated in the show, as three jets sustained damage due to heavy rain and hailstorms that hit Ranchi on Friday afternoon. The Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT), formed in 1996, has performed over 700 shows across India and internationally, including in Sri Lanka, Myanmar, China, Singapore and theUAE, officials said.
Union minister Seth said, “First of all, I extend a heartfelt welcome to Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh on the land of Bhagwan Birsa Munda. It is our privilege that he graced this sacred soil with his presence. The Surya Kiran airshow was an extraordinary sight.
