Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill has been reprimanded after his team maintained slow over-rate during the victory over Delhi Capitals in match 35 of IPL 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
According to the statement from Indian Premier League, Gill has been fined Rs 12 Lakh, a penalty imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct following GT’s seven-wicket victory over DC.
“Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 35 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Delhi Capitals at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad,” IPL said in a statement.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Gill was fined INR 12 lakhs,” IPL’s statement further read.
Gill joins six other captains to be punished for slow-over rate offences so far this season. All seven captains have made just one offence so far. Unlike the previous seasons, the captains will only face demerit points and fines instead of the match ban for repeated offences.
The other captains reprimanded are: Hardik Pandya of the Mumbai Indians, Riyan Parag of the Rajasthan Royals, Rishabh Pant of the Lucknow Super Giants, Rajat Patidar of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sanju Samson of the Rajasthan Royals, and Axar Patel of the Delhi Capitals.
Coming back to the GT vs DC match, Prasidh Krishna’s spell of 4 for 41 helped restrict Delhi Capitals to 203 before Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 97 off 54 balls and a century-stand with Sherfane Rutherford (43 off 34 balls) powered Gujarat Titans past the target with 4 balls to spare.
With this win, Titans toppled DC to take the top spot on the IPL 2025 points table with 10 points and a better Net Run Rate (NRR) compared to Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings, who have also accumulated 10 points each in 7 matches.
