History of Kuldhara village
Kuldhara village was originally settled by Brahmins, who moved from Pali area to Jaisalmer and settled in Kuldhara village. Books and literary details about this village states that a Brahmin named Kadhan of Pali first built his house at this place and also dug a pond, which he named Udhanasar. The Brahmins of Pali were called Paliwal.
The story of the disappearance of the villagers overnight-
According to the prevailing myth, in the 1800s it used to be a jagir or kingdom under Minister Salim Singh, who used to cheat people by collecting taxes. People here were very upset with the tax imposed on the villagers. Salim Singh is said to have liked the daughter of the village head and threatened the villagers that if he tried to oppose it or come in the middle, he would start recovering more taxes. The entire village, including the chief, fled overnight to save the life of his villagers and his daughter’s honor. The villagers left the village deserted and moved to some other place. It is said that while leaving, the villagers cursed the village that no one will be able to live here in the coming days.
Search of Kuldhara village –
Kuldhara village is now a historical site protected by the Archaeological Survey of India. Tourists can get a glimpse of what happened at that time. The Kuldhara region is spread over a vast area, which includes about 85 small settlements. All the slums of the villages have been broken and ruins have been formed. There is also a Devi temple here, which has now turned into ruins. There is an inscription inside the temple, which has helped archaeologists to gather information about the village and its ancient inhabitants.

You can roam the village daily from 8 am to 6 pm. Since this place is considered ghostly, the locals close the doors after sunset. The entry fee in Kuldhara village is Rs 10 per person if you are going by car and 50 rupees if you are going inside by car.
