Pakistan team will not play the group stage match against India in Colombo on 15 February. In such a situation, if the match is forfeited, India will get 2 points. This will be a big blow for qualification in Group A, because points and net run rate are going to be very important to reach Super 8. Due to this decision, Pakistan’s net run rate may also become negative. That means if Pakistan loses even one match in the group stage, it can be out of the tournament.

India-Pakistan match is the highest earning match of cricket. According to reports, there could be a loss of around $38 million (about Rs 320 crore) in broadcaster and sponsor revenue related to this one match. Due to which broadcasters can also sue the Pakistan Board.
On the other hand, ICC’s media rights deal for 2024-27 cycle is worth around Rs 29 thousand crores and most of it comes from the Indian market. This decision of Pakistan will also affect this deal. At the same time, Pakistan’s annual ICC revenue share is also around 34.5 million dollars (about Rs 300 crore), which can be stopped or cut due to this incident. PCB’s financial position is already weak, and this loss could be a big blow for them. Along with this, ICC can also impose fine on Pakistan for forfeiture under tournament rules.

After this action of Pakistan, ICC can also take big action, like banning bilateral series, not allowing participation in Asia Cup, or stopping NOC of foreign players for PSL. Along with this, Pakistan can also be kept away from hosting any tournament.
